Entry Tile Project

This week was a very hard, very long week.  I had the worst week at work that I have probably ever had, and yes, it was only a 4 day work week.  Everything is just piling up and people are just being nasty.  In addition, the one night Matt wasn't out of town or at work super late, I was at work really late, so we hardly saw each other and are having trouble getting back into a groove.  I have been beating myself up and just feeling stressed the past couple weeks (that's what I get for posting in my new year's post that I was the most relaxed I had been in awhile) so I'm looking forward to what is hopefully a much better week next week!  Some school years are just easier than others, and I am counting down the days until this one ends (78 by the way).

One thing that has been a fun distraction, but possibly part of the problem, is our tile project.  We relaxed pretty much all of Christmas break, and then jumped right back into work, school, a schedule, and house projects all at the same time!  I love our house projects, but at some point every single time, I get overwhelmed with the chaos in my house.

Matt and I have a list of projects we would love to eventually complete on our house.  One of them, is new tile.  The current tile has a few cracks in each room and the grout is practically gone in many spots.  Since it is a pretty big project, we started with the smallest tile area in our house - the entry way.
Before:

Matt worked very hard on this project!

All of the tile is chipped away and gone!

He somehow didn't know that he had cut his face?!?

New tile down with spacers:

Ava helped wipe the tile :)

Almost finished:

Finished and everything is back in it's place - including Ava's hand prints on the mirror!

And since we can't just do one thing at a time, I'm off to help finish up the next project :)

Last weekend we rode bikes and went to Lakes Park, and this weekend we swam for a bit and went to Estero Park!

In between trips to the park we have been working on two home projects - pictures to come!!

Happy New Year!

I am enjoying my last day of winter break today with Ava.  We met Matt for breakfast this morning, played at the outlet mall, ran a quick errand, and then have been playing at home.

Can you believe how long her hair is?

I have enjoyed my time off so much, but I think I am actually ready to get back into a routine.  I have organized so much at home, that any more time here may make me a bit crazy :)  I'm at the point where the tiniest things are bothering me with the house, so that's a sign that I need to get back to my busy schedule!

I love the new year because I love setting goals, planning, and organizing my life.  Last year I set a goal to slow down and relax and I would say that 2013 was one of my most relaxed years yet!  2013 was a crazy year at work, but it felt like one of my "easiest" years because I was finally finished with my Masters degree and Ava was a bit older and on more of a predictable schedule.  Matt and I did a pretty good job with date nights in or happy hours out, and I feel like we were "present" with each other and Ava in the evenings and on the weekends.  We both like our job, but do a great job leaving as soon as we can in the afternoon to be together as a family.

In 2014 I hope to continue staying active and doing things we enjoy like bike rides and trips to the park and beach.  Also, I want to be happy with all of the great things I have done, instead of focusing on the things that I have not done.  I'm posting these quotes in my notebook:

We have a few trips in the works for 2014 and have some small house projects we want to work on.  I am reminded every day of how fast Ava is growing, and I just want to enjoy every moment with my family.

Happy 2014!
